¶ Connecticut does not require general continuing education hours for RN license renewal, one of the few states without mandatory CE for registered nurses.

Nursing in Connecticut.

Connecticut has approximately 58,000 licensed registered nurses serving a population of 3.6 million. The state is home to Yale New Haven Health System, Hartford HealthCare, and several other major health networks. Connecticut's proximity to New York City means many nurses commute across state lines or work in competitive labor markets with strong union representation.

Connecticut does not require general continuing education hours for RN license renewal. The state relies on initial education standards and certification maintenance. However, Connecticut does require nurses who prescribe controlled substances to complete training in prescribing controlled substances and recognizing and screening for substance use disorders.

Common practice settings

Academic Medical Centers

Yale New Haven Hospital and other teaching facilities offer nurses exposure to advanced practice and research opportunities.

Community Hospitals

Smaller hospitals throughout Connecticut serve local communities and often provide loan repayment incentives for nurses.

Home Health and Hospice

Connecticut's aging population creates demand for skilled home health and hospice nursing services.

Renewal tips

01

Maintain any specialty certifications with their associated CE requirements.

02

Keep records of employer-provided training for your professional portfolio.

03

If you prescribe controlled substances, complete the required prescriber training.

04

Consider CE in geriatric care given Connecticut's older-than-average population.
